television guilty pleasures...

Desperate Housewives is getting good. I mean, I could do without Mary Alice's heavy narratives. I mean, subtlety is GOOD.

Her husband is creepy, but maybe it's just his nature.

Bree is so uptight. She's fantastically Stepford-o-riffic. But damn does she look fantastic in lingerie.

Poor Zach. Being blamed for something I'm sure he didnt do. Being medicated heavily to keep him from cracking.

Lynnette... MY GOD I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She's everything I love about Jane Kazmarek but better looking and less HULK SMASH! But what happened to her two other kids?? The baby and the other hellion. The twins are brilliantly mischievous even when behaving.

Maisy (bitch mom from hell at the school play) needs to die. Horribly. What kind of name is Maisy anyway? And did I hear her call another mom Tilde?

Glad to see Lynette being assertive.

Gabrielle... WHY ARE YOU SLEEPING WITH A HIGH SCHOOLER who's in the abstinance club???

Susan... are you the neighborhood busybody, replacing Mrs. Huber? Sheesh.

Bree's hubby needs to admit he likes his scrotum licked, and Bree needs to realize obsessing over housework isnt good during sex.

I can't believe I just typed this.

Ok, here are my theories: Mary Alice's husband does appear a bit sinister, but I think he's a red herring in the mystery. However, I suspect their son Zach is very pivotal in Mary Alice's death. In fact, I'm betting it was Zach who sent his own mother the note that read "I know what you did, and it makes me sick. I'm going to tell." So what exactly did Mary Alice do that was so horrible? Have an extramarrital affair? Kidnap someone's baby? Lick Bree's husband's scrotum? That remains to be seen, but it seems to be related to someone named "Dana." It seems likely that Susan's boyfriend is connected with Dana somehow. Maybe Dana was his daughter?

This series definitely fits the genre of "night time soap," but its dark humor and offbeat sensibility distinguish it somewhat from similar shows. Desperate Housewives feels like a hybrid of Sex in the City, Twin Peaks, and Melrose Place.

I agree about the narratives--they can be a little heavy-handed. But it's an interesting storytelling conceit, having the deceased provide a running commentary of the action.

I think you're definitely correct about the husband being a red herring. Originally, I thought it was Mrs. Huber who sent the note... being the neighborhood busybody... and for reasons far less sinister.

I think the father is just trying to protect Zach in the only way he knows how. I still don't think the son did anything, but is all messed up because he blames himself, thinking he caused it. Maybe Dana was a sibling who Mary Alice went all "shake the baby" on? Or maybe it is more sinister. After all they found "human remains" in that toy chest he tried to get rid of.

I don't think Mike and Dana are directly connected... Remember Mike seemed to be working for that older guy in the park, and he did break into the neighbor's house.

I heard interesting tidbits on the radio the other day: Nicollette Sheridan originally wanted/read for the role of Susan but was offered Edie, which was only to be in 1-2 episodes. She didn't like that at all and negotiated a recurring character. (And, from what I've seen, negotiated pretty poorly.)

Also speculation she's been botoxed and padded in the cheeks, lips, and boobs. I'd bet on the botox and the boobs, but she's had the same wrinkles and bouncy ass since she first appeared in Knots Landing. (Ok... I just confirmed she definitely had work done based on photos in IMDB.) Sometime between 1998 and today, her face got harsher. A LOT harsher. EAT SOME FAT NICOLLETTE! AND LAY OFF THE CRYSTAL METH! And about 1996 or after it looks like her boobs got much bigger.
