Turkey Vacation

Well, happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Tonight, I'll be cleaning and packing the car with my parents' first round of holiday gifts (I need time, since it's a computer upgrade, so I need to start now) and trying to make a couple side-dishes for tomorrow's meal...

Am I nervous about tomorrow? Well, sorta. I mean, I don't have to make the meal or anything, but we are driving to my parents house with the hoont, and spending the whole day there. And my grandma's going to be there too.

Nala and my parents get along fine. My parents love the hoont. I think I'm just nervous about my grandma.

And the fact we'll be hanging around my parents for about 6 hours. Scary.

Riots R Them

Ok, I'm gonna call it like it is... a bunch of drunken students and fans took to the streets last night, setting 200+ fires, overturning 20 cars and setting 9 of them on fire, fighting cops who were trying to control it all...

What kind of DUMBASSES pull this shit, let alone while being filmed by not only local television crews, but also law enforcement, concerned citizens, and national press?

The kind of dumbasses who go to my school, I'm ashamed to say.

What does that mean for me? Well, let me tell you. I didnt used to think that it devalued my education at all, but now I'm rethinking that issue.

Whenever a school receives the sort of national media attention that we received this weekend, showing the world what idiots "we" are, and how we can turn our city into "Little Beirut," nothing good can come from it.

Perhaps President Holbrook should deny the team their chance at winning the championship. Sorry kids, you blew it. Go whine to somebody who cares. If she wants to show people she's NOT going to take it, and she's going to stand for education, pull the plug on the Fiesta Bowl. Congrats, other team, we forfeit.

We are a bunch of nuts, after all.

God it's cold...

Stress

Here it comes again

I hate hearing "bad" news in some manner other than directly from the person or persons affected. Now I know why they've been so quiet, but I also feel even worse for not keeping in better touch.

Um. Yeah. That's all I'm gonna say, because I don't know what else to say.

Banana Cream Madness

Blame it on the <A HREF="http://www.maxandermas.com/menu/menu.asp?categoryID=8" target="_blank">Go Bananas! Cream Pie</A>, but I registered 2 new domains and got hosting for them all before bedtime last night.

I know, I know! I'm now the master of TEN domains... or maybe more. I lost count.

You know, I miss coffee talk, and that's essentially what last night was. <A HREF="http://www.naladahc.com" target="_blank">Naladahc</A>, MaxPower, and I, sitting around, chatting about many different things, none of which are clearly related, and then coming up with a cohesive idea that pulls it all together.

We're gonna start a group blog.

With many different features.

And, by God, it's gonna rock.

More than Cleveland.

But maybe less than, say, <A HREF="http://www.maxandermas.com/menu/menu.asp?categoryID=8" target="_blank">Go Bananas! Cream Pie</A>.

Ebay Fun

I just won a really really cheap eBay auction and now I am superfantastically happy!!! I got the two new domains last night... and an electronics "wish book" appeared on my desk at work today... I found (note: didnt buy) a 19" flat panel monitor for $600...

Oh, how the day had ups and downs.

I'll be glad when this quarter is over and it's time to rest, just for a week or so.

One more day till the weekend, a week and a half to my birthday, and roughly four and a half till Christmas...

But first I must finish my labs... always the labs.

Time for a break

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

I need like 4 days off. Now.

Yeah. 4 days. No work. No classes. Just web cleanup on the many many sites I run in my "spare" time, including here.

And sometime during this all, I'm supposed to be putting together a Wish List.

AARGH.

Hoont Love

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love the <A HREF="http://www.naladahc.com/mt/archives/journal/000790.html#000790" target="_blank">Hoont</A>. If anything ever happened to him I would go nuts.

Work Woes

Of course, I have Blondie's "Heart of Glass" stuck in my head now. Dammit.

And my assistant is late for work. 2 hours late. And his cell company is now blocking all incoming calls to his phone.

Choice Music

God, Ben Folds can write some catchy tunes... He can work a crowd, too.

Listening to Ben Folds Premieres on Music Choice. The crowd quite literally became both his horn section and his backup singers.

<I>You took a trip
And climbed a tree
At Robert Sledge's party
And there you stayed
Till morning came
And you were not the same after that</I>

Do To Do To Do

Ok, I have my to-do list for the next couple days. It's long, so I won't bore you. It also includes several things for Nala. And work. And school.

Lots of lists.

oh KAY?

Sleepies now. Site stuff later.

Seriously. This thing is boring me. Maybe I'll go back to the upside down look.

Or maybe it's time for something completely different.

Mozilla, How I Love Thee

Having never used the most recent version of Mozilla, I have to say that this user's list of features has to be the most comprehensive list of reasons why anyone should switch.

Taftquack

So, Mr. Mulgrew lost last night. And so did the marijuana issue. And the car rental tax. But damn, we can tax enough for $390M for new schools because our kids bitch about "too hot/too cold/cracks in the walls".

You know, we had cracks in the walls. And it was too hot in the spring and fall. (No a/c) And too cold in the winter (inadequate boilers, since fixed). And we had something called "asbestos" in our walls and ceilings. (Again, fixed).

Know what finally made them build a new building? Kids complaining about too few bathrooms because they had to go down the hall to use another one.

I wonder what will happen to our old elementary school. It wouldve made a kick ass house. Sections were built in the 1910s and the 1940s, and an earlier 1900s (or earlier) section was replaced in the 70s.

Oh, I still wish that 1910s building was the school. It had a scary dungeon where my kindergarten classes were held while they built the new section. And a scarier cafeteria which was UNDER the gym/theatre combination.

Ah, memories.

Migration in the works

Decided to finally convert my homemade content management system (or at least the journals and MOTD) to Movable Type. It's easy enough to convert back if need be.

Sometimes it's hard to admit defeat.

Two Fer Tuesday Part 2

Woohoo. It's also <A HREF="http://www.daniasdailies.com/archives/000074.html#000074" target="_blank">Tuesday Two-Fer</A> Time...

<I>1. On Thanksgiving, did you or your family have any special traditions? What were they? Do you still do them? What do you miss if you don't?</I>

No real traditions, just watching the parade, eating a huge meal, falling asleep watching football. And now that Gram is in the nursing home, we stop and get her on the way, too. That's 4 hours total.

<I>2. Are ya going to vote tomorrow (today)? Why or why not?</I>

Yep, because I care about our community and I don't want Taft back in office. No way no how.

Slow Week, Again

Wow. Another long delay without updates. I suck, or something.

So, lots of stuff going on. Lab due Thursday, lab due Friday. Project for work due Wednesday.

But first, <A HREF="http://www.promoguy.net/archives/001574.php" target="_blank">Monday Mission 2.44</A>. Why? Because I don't wanna talk about the other stuff. Maybe later.

<I>1. Have you ever had to appear in court? What was the reason? How did it turn out?</I>

Well, I was supposed to. I didn't. My (evil) ex-roommate got us evicted even after I moved out. Landlord changed his mind about letting me off the lease, and I moved out anyway. Ex-roommate's boyfriend moved in, and rent didn't get paid for 4 months. They delivered a summons to the old house (despite the fact the landlord knew my new address). Said they had no way of getting ahold of me. Then, after the court date and 29 days after the settlement was due (one day before a warrant was going out for my arrest, apparently), I got a phone call from the landlord: "Pay me $800 or you're going to jail tomorrow."

That was fun. First I went to the courthouse to confirm, then I had him fax me the itemized bill, then I called my dad. Who else do you call when you're poor and need money fast because you might go to jail?

<I>2. Ever been accused of something you never did? Were you able to convince anyone?</I>

Yes. And no, not really. I want desperately to keep this one short.

<I>3. When it comes to crime and punishment, do you agree with the saying "An eye for an eye?"</I>

Depends on the crime. Violent crimes, definitely. Jerks who abuse their spouses, most definitely. Rapists, murderers, etc, too.

<I>4. Are you a judgemental person? Do you ever make up your mind about a person before you know them? When was the last time that happened? Or if not, how do you keep from being judgemental?</I>

I really try to give EVERYBODY the benefit of the doubt, but it's really hard sometimes. Especially after having ended up with 2 deadbeat roommates in a row before I moved here.

<I>5. Ever get "swats" at school? How do you feel about children being spanked in school. Is it best that they don't do that anymore? How about parents spanking kids? Good or bad?</I>

A detention never deterred anybody from breaking the rules. Spanks, swats, paddlings... it's usually the threat that keeps folks in check. I really don't have a problem with it unless it gets violent. An impartial swatter should deliver the blow(s) probably, to keep the teacher/principal from getting out of control (in our schools it was most often the principal who did the paddling).

<I>6. What is your favorite "Chick Flick?"</I>

Does Princess Bride count? I can't remember a good one...

<I>7. Describe the last situation you were in that can best be summed up by the phrase "seemed like a good idea at the time?"</I>

Erm... my engagement? Yeah... that was my last mega mistake. Or at leat the last that I can think of this early...

Chili Chili Chili

My chili is so good! YUM YUM YUM! I think I'll make it again sometime, when I dont have a midterm to take and only 4 hours sleep!
